Senior Leadership Team Update
It has been a lovely week in the academy with lots of Christmas events. We started the week with an assembly about Hanukkah and heard all about the eight-day Jewish celebration which commemorates the rededication during the second century B.C. of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, where according to legend Jews had risen up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors in the Maccabean Revolt.
On Tuesday morning many students were involved in the Santa Run and as a school we raised £1586.00 for the Inspiration Fund. Thank you to all students, parents and friends who supported this event and particular thanks to Ryland who raised £275. After that we celebrated with our Christmas dinner. It was good to see staff and students sitting together enjoying the traditional fare.
On Wednesday morning a number of staff joined together to sing Christmas songs and carols as students came through the gate, wishing them a Merry Christmas. In the afternoon there was a House Christmas party, and students with 100% attendance, no lates and no consequences were invited to join in snacks and drinks, party games and Christmas singing. Things quietened down a bit on Thursday and then today we have celebrated lots of students at our rewards assembly. These are lovely events. We had a KS3 and a KS4 assembly, celebrating students for demonstrating our values, for achievement in particular subjects, for attendance and good attitude to learning.
It has been a very busy but enjoyable term. We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable Christmas holiday.

Values
Ambition
This week you will have received the latest KPI data which show attainment and Attitude to Learning (ATL) scores. For some, you will see ATL scores which display clearly high levels of effort sustained since September. You may also notice assessment scores which exceed class averages (in Year 7-9) or target grades (in Year 10-13). However, for some you may notice grades which are not as positive.
Being ambitious means we are always seeking to improve and be the best we can be. Whatever the KPI scores show, families should be asking similar questions about this KPI data:
What has gone well this term? How do you know it has gone well?
What does the data show about where you can improve?
Do you know how to improve?
If you don’t know how to improve, how are you going to find out?
What commitment will you make now to actions which will help you to keep getting better?
At KEVI ambition means we always want to improve at everything we do.
Why we do what we do -Academy Rationale
Why we do what we do - We have a rewards assembly at the end of every big term so our students feel recognised and can celebrate each other. Whether they win an award on not, all students can reflect on what they can do to improve and what their ambitions are moving.
House News
Santa Fun Run
This week we had KEVI’s annual Santa Fun Run. Students spent time in November and December getting sponsors for the Santa Fun Run.
Over 140 students took part and despite the cold weather conditions we still completed it, however it turned into a Santa Fun Walk!
Overall our students raised a whopping £1586! One student raised £275 on his own. A huge well done to Ryland from 8Ap. All money raised goes to the DRET Inspiration Fund which allows us to offer special opportunities to our students such as sporting talent days, music talent days, All Stars, debating, dance, Shakespeare festival and sporting events.
Christmas Party!
This week we also had KEVI’s first House Christmas party. Students were selected to attend the party and take part in house activities while we celebrated in style with snacks, drinks, Christmas music and party games.
We had over 120 students attend and take part in challenges such as, dress your House Champion as a snow man, Twister, After eight challenge and karaoke. The students had a great time and earned more house points towards the house championship. Well done to those students.
To attend next year make sure your attendance and behaviour are great!!

Thinking Ahead – My Future, My Choice
Attention Year 8 & Year 9!
- What are your future plans & career possibilities?
- What plans to do you have after you have completed your GCSEs?
- Do you plan to go on to further/higher education? If so what courses might you study?
- What career ideas do you have for the future at the moment?
In year 7, 8 and 9 you will be learning new skills and knowledge that will give you the confidence to help you plan your next steps. This process starts with your careers education in school which will encourage you to think about your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes. You will also start to make some important decisions that could influence your future career path as you will be choosing your subjects to study for GCSE. This process will begin for all Year 9 students early next year.
Each week we will show you examples of the various careers linked to the subject you are studying. This week’s career idea is ........
KEVI Careers Support
Careers Programme
I am delighted to share with you the launch of our new careers' programme at KEVI.
We want to ensure that while pupils are with us, they are given the information and tools they need to achieve whatever career ambitions they have so we were very grateful to the business that attended our careers meeting on Monday morning and have pledge their support for future events. We then had local employer David Weatherley from Walnut Care lead our assemblies.
Hopefully, his encouragement has inspired pupils to make the most of their career's education. KS3 were given a careers challenge to interview someone they know about their careers journey so far in order to win points for the house challenge and David also has offered a bag of Haribo to the most interesting job.
Well done to 7 Minerva who are the first to get an entry in! On Tuesday it was KS4 and KS5's turn with a presentation from Abi Ragsdale from Lincoln College about apprenticeships. Students now know more about this career path for their consideration. We will be continuing with careers education in January with new Step-Up booklets for tutor times, an off-timetable day and a trip to a Careers Fair for Y9 and Y10 (letters to be sent home soon).

Table Talk
After Mother Teresa founded her religious congregation, it grew to have over 4,500 nuns and was active in 133 countries as of 2012. The congregation manages homes for people who are dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy, and tuberculosis. The congregation also runs soup kitchens, dispensaries, mobile clinics, children's and family counselling programmes, as well as orphanages and schools. Members take vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience and also profess a fourth vow: to give "wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor this includes things such as having enough love for people to be willing to drop what you’re doing and serve, spending your time to talk to someone who needs a listening ear, all of these things apply to our students as well.
Presents are nice, especially at Christmas, but without the love behind them they can often mean absolutely nothing. On the flip side, a small, thoughtful gift from the heart can mean everything. As we head into Xmas please take the time to talk with your children about this and how the smallest gift, given with a great deal of thought, and love, can be huge.
Mr A Carrington - Vice Principal
Homework
Thank you so much for the support you have given to your children with the new self-quizzing homework. It has been wonderful to see the pupils engaging with the learning and putting time aside each day to commit to memory the core knowledge they require for success in each of their subjects.
Over the Christmas holidays pupils will not be expected to self-quiz, but all teachers have been stressing the importance of revision to the Year 11 and Year 13 students. It is really important that pupils do have a break and enjoy quality time with their families, but equally they need to spend time continuing to engage with their subjects to ensure they are fully prepared for their exams this summer. We talk to the pupils about the importance of ‘choice not chance’ – by choosing to revise over the holidays our students will be choosing to prioritise their future success.

Word of the Week
Felicitations
Felicitations: noun – happiness, congratulations, good wishes, good luck.
Word origin: felicitas (French): happy
The teacher wished me happiness for the Christmas holiday by saying, “I wish you the season’s felicitations.”
We give our felicitations to both Argentina and France in their forthcoming World Cup final.
Felicitous: adjective – happy. The end of term awards assembly was a felicitous occasion for all award winners.
Felicitate: verb - to make happy or to congratulate. We felicitate all certificate winners for their well-earned recognition of their efforts and successes.
Times Tables
Years 7 and 8 will be reciting their times tables to help embed them in their long term memory.
At the end of each lesson, they will stand behind their chairs in silence, preparing for themselves for the next lesson and just before they leave the whole class will chant the timetables assigned for that week.
Week commencing 4th January 2023 - we will be chanting our 6 times table.

Sports News!
As we come to the end of Term 2, we look back at all the sporting highlights.
Our two rugby teams both beat Skegness Grammar School with our Under 15’s achieving a school record breaking 80-5 win! Other sports teams have also seen success this term with the netball teams remaining undefeated throughout all their fixtures in Term 2.
KEVI has another new record to celebrate as 10 students have been selected for the All Star Teams with 7 (the most in DRET) being selected to Rugby. This is an amazing achievement for the students and the school, to have so many of our students recognised for their sporting ability. Further All Star success has been for Ruby in Y10, they have played two games for All Stars. Netball has been selected which was a critical part in the overall wins.
We are also pleased to introduce the Term 3 timetable with a renewed focus on Table Tennis in preparation for the Summer Cup so if you are wanting to represent KEVI please come along to the clubs.
